Where did speed-dating come from?
Posted by Daniel B. on 9-5-2009
I have always found speed-dating a fascinating concept from the very beginning. It wasn't just that we knew that it worked as a business model, and helped people find relationships - it was also that it's an immensely interesting social development. Here is the piece that I mind the most intriguing. Where did speed-dating come from? By this, I don't mean who ran the first events - certainly, in the States this is claimed by the Jewish singles group Aish, but I believe I read somewhere that ... What's most important at a speed-dating event
Posted by Daniel B. on 9-5-2009
Let's say that the most important and desirable thing at a speed-dating event is that the dates over the table from you are attractive, articulate, interesting, fun and (of course), they think as highly of you as you do of them. This was directly driven from our state of mind at the time - two overworked single professionals, one banker and one lawyer, slightly bitter about the long hours, and both burned from personal experience in the "fear of dating at work ... The question of what to wear to events
Posted by Daniel B. on 9-5-2009
One of our most common customer questions is "What should I wear to the speed-dating event?", or "What is the recommended dress code?".Our standard reply is (and this is in our FAQs) is:"Wear whatever you would feel comfortable in if you were with friends going to a bar or restaurant in Chicago"However, as we review customer comments (and we have literally tens of thousands of these), our opinion has changed somewhat. People do notice how you are dressed, and given that the date is quite ... [Read full post]
